Greetings from our CEO

Sarah Hanawald PhotoGreetings and welcome to the One to One Institute's website! I'm delighted to welcome you to our site and I am sure that you'll find resources here that will help you regardless of where you are in the One to One journey. Over the last thirteen years, One to One Institute has emerged as a voice, beacon, and expert for expanding equity and opportunity for all learners.

The OTO staff and board recently revised our mission, and I'm pleased to share it. Now, more than ever, the call for equity demands access to digital information resources for all learners. Certainly, schools today are the least digital they'll ever be. We know that today's learners will enter a future in which they must leverage digital learning resources throughout their careers (as well as in their personal pursuits) in order to fully participate in society. We choose to openly address that fact that providing ubiquitous access to technology is a moral imperative, not just "the right thing to do."

One to One Institute is a tightly focused organization that equips schools to fulfill the moral imperative of ensuring every learner achieves their full potential and has perpetual access to a personal computing device.

What won't change is our commitment to the why of one to one. It's not about the devices, even though they are essential tools in this digital era. It's not enough to provide devices and access to all learners, it's a critical first step. What must happen is the transformation of education to a student-focused, constructivist system leveraging the power of technology tools, within and beyond the bricks and mortar of 'school.' This transformation of teaching and learning can't and won't happen until educators across the board commit to the thoughtful implementation of best practices in leveraging the power of digital tools in the classroom, in the library, at home, or, "anytime, anywhere."

Over the next few weeks and months, we'll explore the issue of what constitutes an effective One to One initative as well as how leaders can leverage the findings of the Project RED research to ensure that their one to one has meaningful impact on teaching and learning. I'm looking forward to sharing new resources for leaders and schools as they plan, implement, or re-vision their one to one programs. Our expert practitioners, who have all led one to one initatives, are eager to share their insights with the One to One Institute community.

Enjoy your visit to our site! Reach out if we can answer questions or provide additional information or guidance.

Regards,

Sarah Hanawald

A Message from our CEO

Wilson Leslie color webGreetings and welcome to One-to-One Institute’s website!  The contents represent a continual work in progress. Our efforts are geared to providing the most up to date resources, commentaries, and opportunities.

Many years ago, Yogi Berra made an astute observation, “The future ain’t what it used to be.”  The implications for business, industry, education, personal matters, etc., were profound.  Change had to happen to ensure relevancy, competitiveness and efficiency.  It did – in many ways and in many organizations. Education continues to lurch forward in philosophy, practice and adaptation to a new global, lightening-speed paced information age. One-to-One Institute has been at the forefront in this practice serving states, districts, schools and other countries since 2005.

Learners are the core of our non-profit mission, our work.  Since 2005, One-to-One Institute's service, consultancies, and programs have been aimed at serving administrators, teachers, students, parents/caregivers in their quest to successfully transform education to a learner-centered, personalized ecosystem.  Meaningful integration of technologies that leads to each learners' achievement of greater potential is and has been center to this work.

“The mission of One-to-One Institute is to transform education by personalizing learning through universal access to technology.”

Our passionate team is dedicated to ensuring ongoing development of meaningful, relevant programs and services.  Each of our engagements is customized and thoughtfully developed within a culturally-sensitive, adapted delivery that complements all aspects of the organization and its systems.

Research is our foundation.  The Institute has co-authored and is engaged in ongoing research around school transformation through well implemented technologies.  ProjectRED, the 2012 groundbreaking edtech research, has informed our work, content and services.  At this writing, we have launched our third research phase of ProjectRED.  This iteration will look at learner/system outcomes in the seventeen ProjectRED Signature Districts who serve as models of best practice in implementing education technologies.

Enjoy your visit to our site!  Reach out if we can answer questions or provide additional information or guidance.

 Regards,

Leslie Wilson
