1:1 Impact on learning

Does anyone have any data gathering techniques that will give me information about the impact on learning by going 1:1. I have gathered survey data from our students that let's me know they are more engaged and that they have more time available because of having the technology readily available. How do I assess whether or not there is an increase in learning?

Hi,
We've been using a variety of measures in Richland Two. We have a classroom observation protocol, yearly surveys for teachers, students, and parents, and focus groups. We also administer a 21st century skills assessment to fifth graders. You can learn more about our measures from our implementation site: Richland Two Implementation

This is a tricky question! When you are addressing the increase of student learning and 1:1 in the same sentence, I think the focus is taken away from what your vision is within your own district. I believe that this tool that you place in a classroom will increase student learning if you've developed a systematic plan for changing pedagogy, thus changing instructional practices. Driven by your vision and goals, you can assess what you wanted to measure when you set out to implement a 1:1 (or whatever digital transformation you implement).
