Testimonial - Steven Ross, Ph.D., Center for Education Research and Education Policy

The Center for Research in Educational Policy at The University of Memphis has worked closely in collaboration with the One-On-One Institute as part of a three-year state-wide laptop integration initiative (“Freedom to Learn”) in Michigan. Drawing from our long-term experiences with educational technology research and application, we find the Institute to be exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful to districts and schools in all aspects of effectively integrating computers into K-12 instruction. The Institute director, Leslie Wilson and her staff provide expert consulting to principals, teachers, and technology directors relative to hardware and software purchasing, distribution, and maintenance, providing ongoing, embedded professional development that results in effective classroom teaching strategies, and program evaluation. Their enthusiasm and sensitivity to school needs complements their technical knowledge by stimulating faculty motivation, and quality program implementation at school sites. Importantly, we have observed and documented in independent research dramatic positive changes throughout the State of Michigan in the quantity and quality of laptop integration for improving teaching and learning.
